SEL for Educators: Self-care Tips for the Summer

Written by Jay Horan | May 8, 2025 5:09:38 PM

As summer peeks around the corner, it’s time to turn the SEL spotlight inward. Educators, you’ve spent the year supporting others—it’s your turn now.

Teaching is deeply human. Without rest, burnout can take hold. When educators recharge, they return stronger, more inspired, and fully present.

5 SEL-Inspired Summer Self-Care Practices

  1. Reflect, Don’t Just Rest
    Journal, debrief with a peer—reflection builds self-awareness.

  2. Reconnect with Joy
What lights you up outside of teaching? Do more of that.

  3. Practice Mindful Presence
Be where your feet are. Even 5 quiet minutes matter.

  4. Set Boundaries with Purpose
Protect your time. It’s okay to say no.

  5. Learn Something Just for You
Try something new for personal growth—not grades or outcomes.

SEL isn’t a classroom trend—it’s a lifelong journey.
Fill your cup this summer. Your future students will thank you.
