Youth/Family Programming outside of Peace Learning Center:

Trauma-Informed Emotional Self-Regulation Classes for student groups:

Nina offers a variety of emotional regulation programming consisting of activities which teach emotional literacy experientially. Trauma-informed emotional skills training is a great proactive way to support emotional resiliency, academic achievement, and real-life soft skills training. Programming can be offered on-site at your school/community center. Next steps: Fill out a program interest form.

Mindfulness Classes:

Mindfulness Classes consist of focusing attention on one’s thoughts and emotions as they show up in the body with an attitude of curiosity and intention for self-study rather than judgment or reaction. As we learn how the instrument of our body processes thoughts and feelings, we are in a better position to respond rather than react to life events. Programming can be offered on-site at your school/community center. Individual and group sessions available upon request. Next steps: Fill out a program interest form.

Anger Management Classes:

This is a 1-2 hour workshop in which students will learn through lecture during the first half and then experientially for the second half. Anger is a defensive response that is usually covering up a vulnerable emotion of hurt or lack of control underneath. As we learn how to locate and feel these underlying emotions in our bodies, we can release them. The anger then has nothing left to defend and usually melts away. This can be reinforced through practice of specific emotional self-regulation skills. We will also learn how to question beliefs that are fueling our frustrations and address them through inquiry. Programming can be offered on-site at your school/community center. Individual and group sessions available upon request. Next steps: Fill out a program interest form.

Anxiety Management Classes:

This is a 1-2 hour workshop in which students will learn through lecture during the first half and then experientially for the second half. Anxiety and fear are defensive responses that are usually covering up a vulnerable emotion of hurt or lack of control underneath. As we learn how to locate and feel these underlying emotions in our bodies, we can release them. The anxiety then has nothing left to defend and usually melts away. This can be reinforced through practice of specific emotional self-regulation skills. We will also learn how to question beliefs that are fueling our fears and address them through inquiry. Grief Support Services to Bereaved Youth:

This is a 2-hour workshop in which students will learn through lecture during the first half and then experientially for the second half. Grief is often a long process in which emotions of hurt and loss require support. We learn how to hold space for ourselves when these feelings arise and to care for ourselves in a way that accepts and integrates these feelings. We learn how to recognize our feelings and needs. Building upon this, we learn real skills to meet these needs through our attention and communication skills. Next steps: Fill out a program interest form.

Trauma-Informed Coaching for Students during Peer Mediation and Restorative Justice Conferences, Circles, and Consultations (Case-by-Case):

For students going through the above programs who need additional support in emotional self-regulation in order to come to conflict resolution, Nina can provide support and coaching. Once we are able to self-regulate our emotions, we are better equipped to see situations clearly and resolve conflict. Next steps: Teachers/Social workers should email Nina with the full background details and specific needs of the situation.
