Peace Learning Circles
First introduced in the 1970's Peace Learning Circles (formerly known as Tribes) brought social-emotional learning into schools long before SEL was popularized in the field of education. Peace Learning Circles is more than a curriculum or scripted program. To borrow from the techies of the world, a program is simply something that contains a set of instructions designed to complete a specific task. It's passive, and often not very memorable. However, a process is active. It requires actions, like re-focusing, re-culturing, re-structuring, and responding to students' educational and developmental needs. As learning communities grow through this process, the responsiveness of the framework becomes more and more apparent.
